The Oticon Agil Pro was launched by Oticon, one of the major Danish hearing aid manufacturers in the Spring of 2010. It is offered at two technology levels both positioned within the mid range of current hearing aid features and functionality. They are the lower level Agil and the slightly more featured Agil Pro.
The Agil Pro works off a ten channel sound processor and can be configured with up to five listening programmes. This positions it as the upper end of current mid-range technology, so definitely a good quality system that is more than capable of delivering very satisfactory hearing benefit in a wide variety of complex listening environments.
The Agil Pro is offered as a number of different product formats from BTE (behind the ear) using RITE (receiver in the ear) technology through to very discreet CIC (completely in the canal) devices. Most of the products are available in a selection of colours so you can choose to either blend your hearing aid in or make it stand out – plenty of personalisation opportunities!
If you are considering the Oticon Agil Pro or indeed any other hearing aid it is likely that you are suffering from the biggest issue caused by the onset of hearing loss, namely the understanding of speech in a noisy environment. More than all other causes this is the area that those suffering from hearing loss require to be addressed. The Agil Pro is well equipped to address this as it use Multi-band Adaptive Directionality which will focus the hearing aid’s amplification towards the speech present and provide real assistance with this difficult issue.
The algorithm package that operates within the Agil Pro is headlined by the following four – Spatial Noise Management, Binaural Synchronisation and Binaural Processing, and the My Voice algorithm. If you have the opportunity to discuss the Agil Pro with a hearing aid audiologist try to focus on these key algorithms to gain a better understanding of what the overall package is capable of delivering. On paper the Agil Pro only has a limited benefit over and above the Agil but there are differences and providing choice of two similar systems should enable a finer selection process, so well done to Oticon.
In addition to the internal processing wizardry of the Agil Pro, the system is wireless enabled so can link through Oticon’s ConnectLine system to compatible devices such as mobile phones or MP3 players. The quality of such wireless amplification is significant as it is free from interference from background noise. There is a well thought out element of Oticon’s wireless system in that in not only transmits but also improves the sound through a Power bass and Music Widening algorithm that can really enhance the quality of music heard through the Agil Pro.
