The Phonak Audeo Q has been launched to replace the highly successful Audeo S and the primary difference is that the products have been upgraded from the Spice sound processor used in the Audeo S to the new Quest processor now available in the Audeo Q. Phonak have also used the upgrade to change the product formats from the historic Smart, Yes and Mini to three new models the Q-10, Q-312 and the Q-312T. With the global success of the Audeo S, the new products have a hard act to follow so what’s within the second technology level of the new range?

As with all Audeo hearing aids the basis of the range is small BTEs (behind-the-ear) www.ces using RIC (receiver-in-the-ear) technology. The new product definitely retain Phonak’s style but with the use of modern design now widespread across the industry lack so of the edginess that the Audeo had when it was first launched. The Q-312T is the most rounded of the three products and seems almost mainstream, which is a surprise coming from Phonak – a manufacturer with a reputation for playing at the cutting edge of technology.

If you do find that the Audeo appears to lack a certain panache there is plenty of opportunity to apply a splash of individuality as there is a very wide choice of colours ranging from the outlandish “Purple Transparent” through to a traditional beige, albeit Phonak have jazzed even that up by labelling that as “Amber Beige”!! Probably more important is that all housings are now made with a lacquered finish which further improves the appearance and lifetime good looks.

Let’s turn to what is inside the Audeo Q-50 and delve into what the new processor can deliver through the second tier technology. There are 12 channels so the flexibility is there to produce a good match against your specific hearing loss. It is not too long ago that 12 channels would have been best in class but now with the Audeo Q the number of channels hits a peak of 20 channels with the highest technology Q-90.
