Siemens iMini 301
- Invisible in the canal
- 8 Channels
- Multiple sound processing algorithms
- Very small, very discreet
- World class manufacture from Siemens
The Siemens iMini 301 is a product with a very simple position and appeal. It is a very small device that fits deep in your ear canal to provide discreet hearing benefit without the world around you being aware that you are using an aid. Siemens use the classification of IIC which stands for “Invisible in the canal” and for the right candidate that is entirely possible. A word of caution not all ear canals are the same and not all ear canals will be appropriate for the Siemens iMini or any other type of deeply positioned hearing aid.
While it may appear that this style of deep canal aids is that which all hearing aids should adopt it does come with some limitations. Firstly due to its physical size the battery life may not be as long as a product which sits outside of the canal and is able to use a larger battery. Also due to its size it may be more difficult to handle than larger hearing aids which is an issue as one’s fingers lose their dexterity over time. Finally due to its size there is not the space for dual microphones and all the gadgets that can used on a larger product. Lastly one should be aware that as a rule of thumb hearing aids worn outside of the ear – i.e. the BTE (behind the ear) type are typically more comfortable than having a product within your ear.
So having issued all the warnings, there is still a significant proportion of people for whom size and discretion is the most important factor, so how does the Siemens iMini perform? The iMini 301 is the lower of technology levels (the higher one being the701) and is powered by an 8 channel chip platform. This is very respectable and will enable a very close match to your specific hearing loss.
There are a limited number of algorithms but with limitations on size and coupled with the physical positioning of the product, not that many are required. It does have Feedback Stopper, SoundSmoothing, Speech & Noise Management and e-Windcsreen, all of which can be found across the Siemens range. These algorithms will work in conjunction with one another to provide a rich natural sound in all but the most complex listening environments.
Discuss the benefits (and limitations) of an IIC (invisible in the canal) style of hearing aid with your hearing aid audiologist. They will also be able to assess your physical suitability to use such a product. If you are still convinced, then we support the quality of Siemens hearing instruments and feel that you could enjoy hearing benefit with true discretion.
