Description

The Siemens Motion is a BTE (behind the ear) product format that can be found in a number of different families as well as at multiple different technology levels. The range of Motion products can be as diverse as the entry level Siemens Motion 101 to the extremely high tech Siemens Motion Micon, so while the products may carry the same format name and appear similar on the outside, they can be vastly different on the inside and more importantly in hearing benefit.

To throw further confusion into the melting pot the Motion itself can be specified in two differing ways. The Motion can either use a thin tube system to deliver the sound from the case into your ear canal or it can use the classic wider bore tubing typically in conjunction with an ear mould. So even under the Motion banner there is the potential for products to be visually markedly different.

The Motion Takes a size 13 battery or can come with a rechargeable option, so will provide the longest battery life of products within the same technology family. Its size also is a benefit to those who suffer from limited dexterity, with not only a larger battery but also longer between battery changes.

The larger size of case or housing of any BTE hearing aid in comparison to its ITE (in the ear) equivalent has some considerable advantages beyond battery life. The BTEs are typically more reliable as they do not have to contend with the hostile environment of the humid ear canal. They are also less restricted on space so one often finds that the BTE specification includes all aspects of available technology – e.g. the housing is often big enough for wireless or telecoil whereas a small ITE may be restricted in this respect. Finally the components nowadays are often nano-coated to protect them against moisture or dirt ingress so can survive the exposure to wind, rain and the elements.

The Motion would be a wise choice of product format although one can also consider the slightly more discrete Pure. Discuss your options with your hearing aid audiologist and select the product that best suits your needs.
