The X series is a premium hearing aid portfolio from the US manufacturer Starkey. This series has replaced their S series so is building upon a creditable legacy of good quality hearing aid technology. Second generation, evolutionary products often have benefits over their more experimental predecessors, so is the X series an even more polished version and what have Starkey delivered for the consumer?
It uses Starkey’s proprietary sound processor and in the 110 range is a 16 channel system which should provide admirable flexibility to fit to specific frequency loss shapes. In simple terms the more channels the more the fit to your specific loss should be, so with 16 channels at their disposal a hearing aid audiologist should be able to produce a very good match which will result in a comfortable and natural sound.
Driven by this powerful sound processor are a number of features and sound algorithms. There is an aggressive noise reduction system which Starkey call Voice iQ2 which can result in up to 20dB on noise attenuation. There are five levels of personalisation which will allow you to specify the product to your exact requirements. There is an environmental algorithm which will adjust the hearing aids performance in order to maximise the speech intelligibility as the sounds around you change. It also has a feedback cancellation systems – these are now standard across all hearing aids and Starkey is called Feedback Eliminator, fairly self-explanatory!
There are wireless enabled product formats within the X series 110 and these can be paired with Starkey wireless accessories. Through these www.ces one can take advantage of the Bluetooth compatibility of various everyday www.ces such as MP3 players, mobile phone or household telephones – please check the suitability of your systems to pair with a wireless hearing aid and then discuss this option with your hearing aid audiologist.
The X series is offered by Starkey in a number of different product styles, including some very neat BTE (behind the ear) hearing aids. Starkey have historically been extremely strong on miniature ITE (in the ear) hearing aids, so it is gratifying to see their talent extending to BTE – we would particularly recommend the Xino as a very discrete system incorporating high quality technology.
The X series is a strong offering from this well known American brand and a worthy successor to the Starkey S series. If you enjoyed the benefits of the S series, or any other Starkey system, in the past we feel that you could do a lot worse than staying loyal to your brand and check out the Starkey X series.
